Our Websites are in Poor Condition

In our country, the use of internet and mobile devices is increasing rapidly in parallel with the whole world and even at a faster rate.

Web Sitelerimizin Durumu Kötü

Our people are rapidly adapting to digital technologies, but our SMEs are slow to keep up with the change. According to the SMB Digital Scape 2012 Winter Survey conducted by Yellow Medya in collaboration with vSplash Techlabs, one of the world's leading companies, the websites of our SMEs are full of major and important deficiencies. vSplash Techlabs' SMB 2012 Winter Survey, which analysed the websites of 800 thousand businesses, clearly reveals that our SMEs need to urgently review and reconsider their websites.

Here are some striking results from the research, which are not surprising at all;

  • Only 37 per cent of SMEs in Turkey have a website, the remaining 63 per cent do not even have a website.
  • Of the SMEs that have a website, 99 per cent of these websites are not compatible with mobile devices, meaning that users viewing the website with tablet computers and mobile phones either cannot open the pages or get low quality results.
  • Unfortunately, critical information is not included on the main pages of the websites. For example, 98 per cent do not have address, map and road information, 73 per cent do not have phone number and e-mail address.
  • Another result of the research is related to social media connections. Maybe social media may not be very important for SMEs, but 90 per cent of the sites are missing Facebook and 93 per cent Twitter connection.
  • There is no video on the website of 96 per cent of SMEs. Especially in the period when users do not read long texts, the incomplete use of multimedia elements is another deficiency.
  • While most SMEs can survive by selling their products, 98 per cent of SME websites are not compatible for e-commerce.

So what should SMEs do? What should they pay attention to when creating their websites;

  • First of all, the websites of all SMEs should carry the issues specified in the Turkish Commercial Code.
  • Users encounter such an intense digital content that they do not tolerate reading and waiting, websites need to be opened in a very short time such as 2-3 seconds.
  • Another important issue for SMEs is that their websites are compatible with search engines. It is important for effective websites to reach the website in relevant word searches in search engines such as Google, otherwise websites without visitors will not benefit anyone.
  • Websites are living and living structures, they need to be so. It is important that their content is constantly renewed and up-to-date content is presented to visitors.
  • Another important point is security, unauthorised access to the sections of the websites that are accessed by username and password and contain personal information should not be unauthorised.
  • The company's information such as contact, address and transport should be accessed through the website.
  • Mobile compatibility has become especially popular recently and has almost become a necessity, one of the sine qua non of websites is that they can be viewed smoothly from mobile and tablets.

If you are going to make or renew a website for your company, make sure that it opens fast, has mobile and tablet support, has a stylish design and a useful content management system.
